Electric Fireplace Logs Are Styrofoam?!
While the logs in an electric
fireplace may look real, they are not really logs at all.
While the logs in an electric fireplace
may look real, they are not really logs at all. The same is true of the
flames you see, they use refracted light to create the illusion of
flames. This is good news for you, as you won’t have to chop logs, or
keep fueling the fire all night. You will, however, need to change the
light bulbs every few years.
Due to their ease of operation electric fireplaces continue to grow in
popularity. They are so portable you can even decide to bring them with
you if you move. They have all the benefits of a traditional wood fire,
such as warmth and beauty, without any of the fire hazards. The logs you
see glowing are actually Styrofoam, and the flames are created using
refracted light.
If the flames and logs were real, you would have a home full of their
toxic smoke. You will be surprised at just how realistic these
fireplaces really are, it is almost like watching great special effects
in a movie. You get the great look of a burning fire without ever adding
logs to the fire or cleaning out the ashes afterward.
Of course nothing comes without some maintenance. When it comes to
electric fireplaces this means you will occasionally need to replace
your light bulbs. How often you need to change them depends on how much
you use your fireplace, but it averages once every two to three years.
That’s a huge improvement from shoveling ashes every time you burn a few
logs in a traditional wood burning fireplace.
